I’m starting a new category of blog posts along the lines of a product review for foods that I love. I’m still toying around with an exact name for these types of posts, but for now I’ll call it: “chewgoodstuff picks” (or Mike’s REAL FOOD faves).
I can’t promise how often I’ll post these, but let’s see how it goes for now. Here are some of my recent can’t-get-enough-of foods.

Rapunzel Organic Cocoa Powder:

This unsweetened, organic cocoa powder is great for baking, or to add to raw food desserts. Use instead of sweetened packaged hot chocolate mixes or add to coffee or even a smoothie. Its bitter taste is due to it being 100% cocoa with no added sugar, but that’s exactly why I like it. Sometimes I like to create healthy desserts in the kitchen that don’t contain any sugar or sweeteners and this does the trick. I also like that it’s organic and that the company is committed to Fair Trade practices. My favorite way to use it is blended with avocado for a sugarless chocolate mousse-like treat.

Pukka Three Cinnamon Tea:

I discovered the Pukka brand of teas about a year ago and am slowly tasting my way through the line. This Three Cinnamon is one of my faves so far. Consisting of Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Indian types of cinnamon this tea has a sweet flavor despite not containing any added sweeteners — naturally sweet from the varietals of cinnamon. I like to enjoy a cup of this either plain or with some full-fat coconut milk after dinner as a sweet treat. Cinnamon is a culinary and therapeutic herb known to help support balancing of blood sugar levels in the body. It is also 100% organic.

go raw Sprouted Watermelon Seeds:

I’ve been taking a hiatus from nuts, experimenting to see if I may have an intolerance and it’s been challenging finding enough snack options to keep me satisfied — until I found these guys. 100% organic sprouted watermelon seeds by go raw (or Freeland Foods) are an awesome addition to a well-balanced diet if you’re like me and looking for a nut-free snack. Just 2 ingredients: the seeds and some celtic sea salt. Think pumpkin seeds but not as thick (thinner/lighter and not as strong of a flavor). I like to add some to salads or just enjoy them plain as a mid-afternoon snack. They also contain 11 grams of protein per 1 oz. serving size.

Stay tuned for future “chewgoodstuff picks” posts (whoa! that’s a tongue twister!)

Mike
