Do YOU believe in YOU?

I have fears. Things that hold me back. Worries and possible what if’s that pop up in my head that I wish would go away.

What if’s that many times don’t even manifest…what if this goes horribly wrong or what if that person thinks this or that about something I did or said?

And that’s the thing…stress and fear are often caused by these situations that we forecast and predict before they even take place. And many times we can hyperbolize the event and paint it to be an awful, horrific one. As mentioned above, sometimes what we anticipate will happen does not even occur and other times a much less drastic version of that story unfolds.

I think we all have these thoughts and feelings of unease from time to time. What keeps some from moving forward and others living in crippling fear/pain and a state of idleness is believing in oneself…accepting these thoughts that arise for what they are and realizing they may just be feelings. And that feelings are not a reality. You may feel a certain way but is it really happening?

I’ve had doubts about my journey/path in life…the fear of putting my initial work out there (blog posts, writing, etc: anything I create) because it can be scary! I had fears to start my own business feeling like, “who am I? Who would seek my advise?”…and fears to play drums in front of others when first starting out. My drum teacher believed in me and encouraged me to start playing with a band but for some reason I was my biggest critic.

And that’s often the case…we can conjure up these thoughts and negative self-talk. And often times others are not even the ones thinking those negative thoughts about us.

So, do YOU believe in YOU?

Because chances are there’s someone or many around you who believe in you. And believe in your abilities to share your gifts, skills, expertise, creations and presence with people around you.

Haven’t you ever had a teacher or friend nudge you to pursue something? To sell something that you were just making for fun or for a hobby because others may find value in it? Or to go for that promotion because you would be the best fit?

It takes practice. It’s not easy. I still have fears. But the more you open up, learn to not care what others think, move forward with action rather than inactivity and take a risk on yourself, you gain momentum and the small wins propel you forward.

Sitting and waiting for the perfect time to act is often worse than taking a risk and “failing”. Is there any such thing as failing at something if you’ve put your best foot forward and tried? And is there any such thing as a perfect time to take action?

Trust that you are moving forward in the right direction. Trust that a few steps forward and a few steps back will get you to your endpoint eventually — and that it may take a while. Trust that if you’ve listened to yourself and have learned from past mistakes and have taken action to alter the course moving forward that you are better than you were before.

Remember that life is about making mistakes. And there is no such thing as a perfect life, or a perfect person. Do yourself a favor and ease up on the constant self-judgment. It makes life a whole lot easier when you can just let it go and live.
