What is the 21-Day Sugar Detox?
This 3-week program was developed by Diane Sanfilippo, nutritionist and New York Times bestselling author and a former nutrition classmate of mine.
The detox is designed to:
- minimize/eliminate your intake of refined carbohydrates, processed foods, and sugar for 3 weeks.
- help you become more aware of the foods you may be addicted to or rely on daily
- give your body and liver a break from foods high in sugar so that it can function more optimally
Is this a juice cleanse or is there a supplement regime?
It is not a juice cleanse, nor a program which requires any supplements to be taken or protein shakes to be consumed.
Will I starve myself on this detox/diet?
There are tons of “real”, whole, unprocessed foods that can be eaten during the detox to help keep you feeling full and satisfied.
What exact forms of sugar are we avoiding?
This depends on the level you decide to participate in, however most levels will restrict: added sugar to foods in any form (sugar, honey, agave nectar, etc), gluten and wheat, corn, alcohol, and most fruits (there are a few allowed). This list is not complete (too many to list here).
Will I lose weight by doing this?
You may, however that is just one of the many benefits that former participants have reported by detoxing. Every participant will have different experiences with the detox. Some report feeling more energetic, able to sleep better and more soundly, clearer thinking, better skin, PMS symptoms lessened, less headaches, reduced inflammation, positive outlook on life just to name a few.
